Alright everyone.. first of all I want to appologize for not having written sooner. The truth is I ran out of stuff to say about my XPS 720 for now and I havent updated it or anything. Its been running fine except rarely the sound card emits a static sound. I will have to do some research on the dell forums to find out whats up.

Anyway I am back and I have a new project to write about. I am building an HTPC (home theatre PC for those who don’t know). I am mostly building it because I really dislike the media center that comes built into the XBOX 360. Here are some reasons for not liking it:

1. Cant seem to stream divx media over.

2. Refuses to play mkv files.

3. I dont like the way the menu is layed out.

4. I have to boot another computer and join it to the network to run media center on xbox360.

I have plenty of other reasons but those are my main ones. So I have planned to create an HTPC that will solve most if not all of those problems. With a PC I can even surf the web and play pc games or write this blog if I want to. My mission is to build an economical HTPC that will play almost any movie file I throw out it (including HD mkv files). The first step in building a new PC or undergoing any project is to plan a budget. Well I have already done that and to make the project even more interesting I am only planning on spending $300 max to build this thing. Remember that the main goal is to play HD mkv movies and I am pretty sure those require decent hardware…  this might get challenging.
